Malaika Ashfaq is a BA-LLB (Hons) graduate from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), with a concentration in Corporate and Commercial Law. Her academic training encompassed key subjects such as Commercial Law, Mergers and Acquisitions, Public-Private Law, and Corporate Financing, equipping her with a strong foundation in business transactions, corporate governance, and statutory compliance in both domestic and international contexts.

During her internship at AGHS Legal Aid Cell, Malaika gained hands-on experience in legal research, drafting, and case preparation on matters involving human rights and constitutional law. This experience enhanced her analytical acumen and strengthened her ability to apply legal reasoning across diverse areas of practice.

Her academic and professional interests include corporate advisory and transactional work, commercial and civil litigation, contractual structuring, and intellectual property protection. She is particularly interested in the intersection of law and technology, exploring how evolving legal frameworks can address the challenges of digital innovation while balancing accountability, regulation, and economic growth.

For her senior-year research project, titled “Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property: Rethinking Authorship and Inventorship in the Age of Machines,” Malaika examined how existing IP regimes might be reformed to recognize AI as an inventor. The study analyzed the legal and ethical implications of granting inventorship status to autonomous AI systems and proposed a comparative framework informed by international developments in technology and patent law.
